Every October, companies across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada celebrate National Manufacturing Day. The day was created in part by the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International®, the National Association of Manufacturers, the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), and the Manufacturing Institute. It is a day meant to focus on the challenges that many companies in the industry face, such as addressing misconceptions of what manufacturing really means.
Companies are invited to open their doors to the public and to STEM students to give them a better understanding of the manufacturing world. It is also a day to support communities and to encourage future generations to enter the manufacturing industry, which is ample with solid work opportunities. The idea is that if people are able to first hand experience the manufacturing workplace, they will better understand what manufacturing is and how it can better impact their lives and communities.
By banding together, companies can address issues that face the industry, such as a shortage of skilled labor, a misrepresented image of manufacturing, and how to connect with future generations to increase interest. Although the day is scheduled for October 7 this year, companies can always register their events for any time of year on the website.
